You cannot ignore this topic if you are participating in the
customer acquisition process in any manner. Why do we lose projects? This is a
question that every software development company should be able to answer.
The response might reveal a lot about your company and where
you can make improvements. For example, you know where to start making
improvements if you're losing projects because of bad project management.
If you're losing projects because your clients can't wait for
your software development lifecycle (SDLC), you'll have to choose between
sticking to your work ethic and producing hurried work.
This is what we came up with when we asked ourselves this
question.
It takes
time to do good work:
I need an application created in the next month that integrates
with XYZ. — The Client with the Difficult Deadline
Have you ever had a client say this to you? If you've ever
had to respond to a request like this, you know how irritating it may be to
explain that excellent work takes time.
Software development agencies cannot emphasize enough to
potential clients that developing an app is never simply about creating one.
Instead, an application is more than just the components that were utilized to
put it together.
Non-negotiable quality:
I don't require UX or QA, and I'll save money by doing it
myself. I need development services. — The Client Who Saves Money
Another significant source of contention among our clients is
when they want to cut out large parts of the software development process to
reduce the cost of developing an app. Although an app may not be inexpensive,
it does need a significant amount of work and planning.
Why don't you take the money and do what the customer wants,
you might be thinking.
In theory, this isn't a big deal—we could develop an app
without doing any user research, designing an efficient user experience, or
testing it for bugs—but that wouldn't represent our confidence in our work.
The solution is straightforward: excellence is unavoidable.
We are sure that everything we produce should reflect our high-quality
standards. Because of how solid we are in this conviction, a handful of clients
have walked away from a project.
Innovative
projects:
I want to build something similar to XYZ, but it will be
unique since XYZ. — The Client Who Has a Great Idea.
The answer is simple: A software development company wants to
help your business succeed, and we won't develop it if we don't believe in your
business plan. On the other hand, if we don't think a client's concept will
succeed, we will try to develop it further to be confident that we aren't
putting our clients up for failure.
We're committed to collaborating with the most
forward-thinking brands and businesses, and we'd want to maintain it that way.
But, unfortunately, we have lost many clients who felt they could compete with
large corporations such as Google or Facebook.
